Your smile,
considered from every angle

Invisalign is a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten teeth. Smooth and comfortable, they blend easily into daily life.

At Whalen Dentistry, your cosmetic goals, dental health, function, and long-term maintenance are all considered together.

For some patients, Invisalign in Cornelius, NC creates a foundation for whitening, veneers, or other cosmetic care. Your care plan is built around the result, rather than a single procedure.

Invisalign® FAQ

GETTING
STARTED

How do I know whether Invisalign is right for me?

The first step is a clinical evaluation. Dr. Whalen will consider the position of your teeth, your bite, your oral health, and the movements needed to reach your goal. If another approach would be more suitable, we will discuss the available options.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the complexity of the case and how consistently the aligners are worn. For many patients, treatment takes between 6 and 18 months.

How many hours per day will I wear my aligners?

We recommend wearing your aligners 20 to 22 hours every day, removing only for meals, drinks other than water, brushing, and flossing. You may also remove them for photos, if you desire.

DAILY
LIFE

Can I eat normally during Invisalign treatment?

You remove your aligners for meals, allowing you to continue eating a broad range of foods. Unlike metal braces, there are no specific food restrictions.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Some patients notice a temporary difference while becoming accustomed to wearing their aligners. This typically improves as the tongue and mouth adapt.

Are Invisalign aligners comfortable?

You may feel pressure or tenderness when beginning a new set of aligners. This sensation is associated with the planned movement of the teeth and commonly settles as you adjust to the new set.

What are Invisalign attachments?

Attachments are small, discreet tooth-colored shapes that may be placed on selected teeth to help the aligners direct certain movements.

TREATMENT

How often will I visit the office?

Appointment timing depends on your plan and progress.

What happens if I lose an aligner?

Contact Whalen Dentistry for guidance before moving forward on your own. The team will determine whether you should wear a previous aligner, advance to another set, or receive a replacement.

Will I need refinements?

Some treatment plans include additional aligners to fine-tune tooth positions after the initial series.

Can Invisalign help if my teeth shifted after braces?

Invisalign may be considered for teeth that have moved after previous orthodontic treatment. A personalized consultation is needed to assess the current position of the teeth, the bite, and the condition of any existing retainers.

Can teenagers receive Invisalign?

Yes. Many teens appreciate the discreet nature of Invisalign treatment and the absence of food restrictions. We’ll discuss with teens and parents whether Invisalign is the best option for your teen’s oral health, complexity, and lifestyle.

AFTER
TREATMENT

What happens after Invisalign treatment?

Retainers are commonly used to help maintain the new tooth positions after active treatment.

Does insurance cover Invisalign?

Some dental plans include orthodontic benefits. Coverage varies by plan, age limitations, benefit maximums, and other terms. Whalen Dentistry offers complimentary benefit checks and can file claims on behalf of patients according to its current patient information and policies. Specific Invisalign coverage must be verified for each patient.

How does the online smile simulation work?

The simulator allows you to upload a photo from your phone and receive a visual preview of how your smile could appear with straighter teeth. The preview is exploratory and does not replace an examination, diagnosis, or personalized treatment plan.

Visualize your studio smile

After your smile simulation, we invite you for a personal consultation. Dr. Whalen will take an honest look at your smile and give you a clear understanding of your options to help you decide if clear aligner treatment is right for you.
